I'm planning on applying for NATS to train to be an air traffic controler, but they said that there are 2 different types - aerodrome control and area control. So does anyone know the difference? What's the difference between aerodrome control and area control?
Aerodrome is at the airport. You will be vectoring aircraft to land and direct them. You may also direct them on the ground and help pilot set up for an approach.
Area is when you work with traffic that's en route most often during cruise. You will give aircraft altitude clerances and help seperate them from each other.
Since NATS is an english company operating in an english system, it migh be a little more diffrent that stated above.
Good luckWhat's the difference between aerodrome control and area control?
The Tower controls the local area (usually a 5 mile radius) and the Center (or whatever they call it now) controls the surounding area outside that area.
quick rule of thumb if you can look out the window and see an airplane that is aerodrome control (control tower).
Area control is USUALLY away from the airport and they advise aircraft using radar whilst the tower control may have radar they can look out the window and advise the pilots what to do.
This is an over simplification. Good luck
