What is the difference between positive control and negative control?

Can anyone explain me, when do we have to use negative control and positive control?

It depends on what context you are referring to. Do you mean positive and negative feedback? Or in terms of controlling behavior?


For positive and negative feedback the following applies:


Negative feedback: When glucose levels in the blood increase, insulin is released. When glucose levels become normal, insulin release is shut down by negative feedback


Positive feedback: During birth the uterus contracts. These contractions cause more contractions, that cause more contractions until the baby is born.





In terms of behavior,





Negative control is punishment. It stops the behavior but does not change or eliminate it.


Positive control is reinforcing a desired behavior (like giving praise for a job well done). The behavior is more likely to occur in the future.


There is also negative reinforcement, which means removing an aversive stimulus. Whatever behavior was responsible for getting rid of the annoying stimulus is more likely to occur in the future. For example, taking the garbage to the outdoor container removes the bad smell. To avoid the bad smell in the future, a person is more likely to remove the garbage before it starts to smell.What is the difference between positive control and negative control?
the concept is very simple one , what would you do if you accidentally place your hands on a hot pot , you would immediately take off your hands . the reason behind it is when you touch a hot vessel , the heat receptors of your skin sends an information to brain that your hand touched a hot vessel , this is positive control , the brain immediately sends an informayion to your hand to withdraw this is called as negative control system .All the best , Have a nice day!
