How do you control grass along a fence line?

I have a split rail fence with wire deer fencing over it to keep my dog in and the pests out. Unfortunately, I have a problem trimming the grass along the fence line. The weed trimmer gets caught in the deer fencing and twists it up into a real mess. I've also tried using a flame weeder and the grass just comes back twice as strong. I've even considered gravel along the fence line, but then I'd have an issue with the mower catching it.

Any suggestions? How do you control grass along a fence line?
I always use round-up, or total vegitation killer where it kill everything for a year.you can get it at any home improvement retailer but i live on a farm and i always use this stuff makes my life a lot easier. good luckHow do you control grass along a fence line?
Have you thought about putting down a strip of heavy duty, opaque black plastic the length of your fencing? You need to trap it under the wire and you can pin down the inside edge to avoid mowing it. Nothing will survive a long period deprived of light. The technique is used on open land that one wants to get rid of weeds etc. The idea is that the opaque plastic (you may be able to find it in green too) is left in place for a year and when removed shows soil ready for working as weeds would have tried to grow and then rotted back! It would work for your grass..
Spraying with RoundUp will kill it. Repeat annually for some grasses, such as bermuda and crab. You could also put a line of bricks buried to be level with the ground, but that is a lot of work.
