Whats the best way to control out of control puppy biting and barking?

I have a small ( 2 pound ) 9 week old puppy, yeah! However the past 3 days his biting and barking has become out of control. Out of no where he wil come up and bit your face, hand, even back. We have tried giving him toys that are ok for him to knaw on, but he would prefer to bit us instead. Also he has a very lound , deep bark , unlike anything I have every seen before. Please help! When puppy's teeth touch you, you yelp in a high pitched voice, just the way his littermates do. Sometimes, they will stop and even lick you. If you don't have a crate - get one! You will be thankful that your puppy is crate trained. If the puppy bites please do not slap or hit him. If the yelping doesn't work, he gets a timeout in the crate but only for a few seconds. If you are not sure of how to crate train, check the internet, there is lots of good ideas. The crate has to be a very positive thing. They get their meals in it, they get treats in it. When you use it for a time out, the puppy is just placed in it and the door closed - showing no emotion. However, don't wait until he starts barking to let him out. He will likely come and nip again - back into the crate. Please do a search for ';bite inhibition';. Look for names such as Ian Dunbar, Stanley Coren, Patricia McConnell, Karen Pryor. These people give lots of good advice.





As for the barking, the worst thing to do is yell ';No'; or ';Shut Up';, etc. All you are doing is barking back at him. Try timeouts in the crate for barking too. My motto - ignore unwanted behaviour and praise/reward the behaviour you want. i do not use a cage, i just pick it up and put it in another room for 2 to 5 minutes..but at this age if it were with the other puppies they would all be training eachother..teach him in a low voice ';NO'; when ever he is bad..then push him away...works here. just remember only one word';no';...

For the biting I would give out a big YELP! our OUCH! and walk away from him. We don't play those games, he also sounds like he is a little dominant, I would get him into some puppy obedience classes and get some control. And for the barking you may need to look at a citronella bark collar, but he is a little young. I would ask your trainer when you get to classes. Good luck!
1st off, what you're describing is actually proper behavior for any pup at this age..lol!! This is consistent with sibling play ...sooo, now begins the gentle training, quietly but firmly telling your fur-faced babe nooo~~ stop~~ (or whatever simple words you choose to use). Teaching it to be gentle can be a royal pain at this age.. yet is imperative! Keep remembering patience~patience~patience..and CONSISTENCY is so important as you want a family member, not an out of control brat nor do you want to break the spirit and turn it into a shaking, fearful and depressed pup who'll become permanently afraid of you.
