do a web search of the different kinds of birth control you are interested in....Mirena is the IUD with hormones, ParaGard does not have hormones...NuvaRing also has a website..you may also want to research Depo injections and Implanon (implantable device).....check the amount of hormones in each one, then discuss it with your OB/GYN. Be prepared with questions, and then the 2 of you can decide on a plan that is best for you. What birth control would you recommend in my situation?
I'm using centchroman. It's an SERM and doesn't usually affect lipid function or weight. The worst side effects I've heard about are dehydration or water retention, some acne, and/or delayed menses. More importantly, though, it's actually got some anti-cancerous affects. You might be interested.

First congratulations on your engagement I hope everything goes well. But as far as the iud goes it is an abortifacient. I have tried the nuva ring and it works well but the hormone dosage is the same as loestrin fe24 the birth control that I use now and you do have to take the ring out every three or four weeks and replace it. So far on this birth control I havent gained any weight my doctor told me that as long as I eat healthily and exercise the way I normally do I had nothing to worry about. I hope this helps. Good Luck!
The IUD isn't recommended for younger women. It can increase your chances of miscarriage (its a foreign device in your uterus!) I would try the injections or a new pill. YAZ or YASMIN are GREAAAAt brands. THey really helped me lighten my menstration and the YAZ especially helped with the ';emotional'; side of being on your period. Also, neither made me gain weight. I just had to get off them b/c i dont have insurance and it was pricey! But i loved it!!
DO NOT I repeat DO NOT go with any injections. They make you gain TONS of weight I took Depo injections and gained more then 30 lbs in a year I couldn't do anything about it. It was good only had to get injections 3 times a year, but you have to remember it is ALOT of hormones injected in you at one time. I think you should try the Ortho Evera patch. I am on it and was kind of skeptical in the beginning, but it is really good some times I forget about it. You still have your period and I think that is the important part. tell me what you think
There is an IUD that is made of Copper, It has no hormones in it. You can google copper IUD to find out more about it. Just like any other birth control they are not 100%.
You can also look into arm inplants. They are like little match sticks that are placed into the upper arm and deliver hormones on a regular basis.
There are two kids of IUD, hormonal and non-hormonal. I don't know where you got your info, but both types kill or damage sperm. They don't affect the processes within your body.
I think a copper IUD sounds like a great choice for you. That way you can avoid hormones all together.
Hi there,
I would go see your doctor and talk about options, or a birth control clinic (i.e. planned parenthood).
Perhaps try the diaphragm, or the Today sponge (Which is back on the market) as these are hormone-free. These together with condoms are good options.
Best wishes!
birth control shouldn't make you gain weight. if it does, it shouldn't be more than 5-10 pounds, and you're just as likely to lose weight on the pill as you are to gain it.
What happens with an IUD is that an egg can sitll be conceived but WILL NOT develope and you won't become pregnant.
You should always speak to your doctor but I have been on the ring the shot the patch the pill and the natural method. For me I love the ring. It is easy to use and you pretty much cannot do it wrong which was my big worry. I gained a little weight but that has a lot more to do with the fact the birth control seems to make me more hungry. If you eat the same it wont do that. The shot is the worst. I gained 30lbs and have never really recovered from a side effect that thins the lining of your vagina. It causes a lot of pain during sex and my doctor says it may never completely go back to normal. I have been off the shot for nearly 2 years. The shot also takes all your calcium and you have to take supplement. It is best to stick to low dose methods such as the pill ring and patch. All are of similar amounts of hormones and considered low dose. The natural method is great and there are a few different ways to follow it but I found it effective however my husband was always to anxious about the risk so we went back to the ring. (Oh and encase you worry my husband says he cannot feel it)
